what is the 3' race - (Nov/21/2001 )

Can someone please explain in basic english what the 3' race is? thankyou

3'RACE is the acronym for Rapid Amplification of cDNA Ends. To get a complete picture of what iscontained in the last exon of the mRNA, this technique is carried out. Usually a oligo dT primer is used to capture the natural poly A tail of the mRNA to make cDNA. This region may conatin UTR which may by much longer then 5' UTR (~ 200 nts). Try Gibco website which contains a detailed protocol (PDF) for both 5' and 3' RACERamesh
