how can i visualize only proliferating cells?

Not sure if this helps, but...if you used a stain like CFSE you would be able to see a decrease in fluorescence as cell proliferated...

you can do both...CFSE will not kill the cells.

BrdU incorporation.

With this technique you get to visualize the cells that were on S phase during the BrdU exposure.
You add the BrdU to the culture media and then you perform immunocytochemistry.
I do this always and I get very good results.
