Flow analysis software - Help! (Aug/19/2009 )

Hi everybody,

I desperately need help! I have tons of data to analyze and my lab uses DIVA to do it (OMG... is that me or this is the stupidest software out there?). We are using the latest version (what I hate even more than the previous one!).

Is there any free software that you would recommend me? I am looking for a software that would do batch analysis but at the same time would allow me to do adjustments (I run several tissues, and I always have to move the gates) and save them per tube. I know flowjo can do it, but I just cannot convince my boss to buy it.

Also, is there anyway I could apply a gate to all my plots in ANY software? Lets say, I have a plot PE vs APC. Than I want to do FITC vs APC. What I wanted was having the same gate applied to all plots that have APC for one given tube (for example). I don't think I am asking too much! LOL.

Any input is highly appreciated!

yeah, too much to ask from free software. Most use WinMDI but am afraid it will not do what you are looking for.

I just had a free 30-day trial of FlowJo. Maybe that would be long enough for you?

Did you like the software? Is it really worth buying? I am considering buying myself, will see. I hate my lab has money to spend and won't buy things to make our lives easier...

As for your free trial running off and you not having time to use it, you should contact them and explain and ask whether they can give you another month for free (mention you are thinking of buying it but not sure because you've been to busy to have a proper test). They emailed me asking if I had had enough time and if I hadn't they'd tried to get me another 30-day free trial, so its definitely worth trying. Also, you could ask someone else in your lab to get the free trial, it was 2 of us here who got it at the same time.

I'll definitely recomend buying it, but not with your own money. Try to get another free trial, and find some time to use it and maybe some time to show it to your supervisor and convince him/her that is definitely worth buying it.
