Freeze down primary monocytes? - (Aug/12/2009 )

Hi there,

I just have a question relating to freezing down primary monocytes from blood. Normally I would work with them straight away, but I wonder if it would be feasible to freeze them down (in DMSO:serum) for a period of time?

Has anyone any experience in freezing primary cells, and if so are there major differences between this and freezing cell culture stocks?
Is the viability of the cells lower when broken out?

Thank you in advance!!

-OKSO-

It should work, after all people have been making primary cultures for some time now and freezing them down. The viability is always less on thawing, this goes for any cell line, primary or not.
