Oxygen diffusion through cell culture medium - (Aug/10/2009 )

Hi all,
I would have a question regarding oxygen diffusion through/in cell culture medium. If I have cells on plate with 2 ml of cell culture medium (surface of the well is 9.5 cm2) and then I put the plate from normoxia to hypoxia (1% of oxygen, 37°C is in the hypoxia incubator), how long approximately does it take to reach 1% of oxygen in the cell culture medium (and in cells)?

Its best to measure it experimentally because there are so many variables involved.

there are equations that describe the diffusion rate in an ideal system, but as genehunter said, there are lots of variables involved.
