culturing COS-7 cells - (Jul/17/2009 )
Hi all,
I am having serious problems in culturing COS-7 cells.. they tend to maintain the same state , as in, they neither grow or die off after getting adhered..morphology is fine..n the intriguin part is that they they are growin in parallel lines? HELP PLEASE

I find that my COS-7 cells grow quite rapidly and do so in a normal pattern with the expected morphology. I have never seen them fail to grow or grow in "lines." Two questions, then:
1) Are you using the proper medium? I use low glucose DMEM supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum
2) Are you sure these are COS-7 cells?
Hi,
Does your medium contain glutamine? Or do you have to add it? Did you? This was the reason why some of my cells did not grow, thought medium contains l-glutamin /stabilized glutamin but it did not...

Yes, the medium contains L-glutamine and 110 mg/L sodium pyruvate.

yours might - but its a little too easy to grab the wrong dmem bottle if your new to the game - proteome - you should check
love the idea of growth in parralel lines - like synchronised swimming for cells - you could sell tickets

Hmmm, parallel line usually means that your cell cultures are being exposed to vibrations - check your incubator for a small vibration and get it sorted out. See attachment.
