Temperature vs pH - (Jun/29/2009 )
Hi,
How does temperature affect the pH of liquids?
Is it possible to prepare a buffer of high pH stablility?

Homework questions? Any chemistry textbook will explain the first better than I could. As for he second - yes.

I suppose you know a bit of basic chemistry?
If the temperature goes up then what reaction will be favored? The endothermic one or the exothermic one?
And what kind of influence does this have on the equilibrium?
I think with this information, you should be able to figure out how the pH is influenced by temperature.
and it is indeed possible to produce a buffer with a high pH stability

Hi Pito,
Dissociation matters...
Thank you very much

yeah the autoionization reaction of water is endothermic. So if the temp. goes up: more H+ is formed.
