aliquot media recude contamination? - (Jun/23/2009 )
In tissue culture,, do you aliquot the media or you warm the whole 500ml bottle.
Is aliquoting a source of inducing or reducing contamination?
does re-warming up of media for several times affect its efficacy?

I warm the whole bottle, handling of the media is one of the most likely causes of contamination. Cooling and heating repeatedly will cause some of the more labile compounds, such as L-glutamine to degrade a bit faster, but not much more than storage does.

thanks alot

I like to make aliquots as I have bad luck (or work like a pig, you name it ) and everytime I keep opening the 500ml bottle I get contamination
Also, it takes more time to warm the whole bottle that a single tube hehe
