geometric mean - what is this? (Jun/03/2009 )

what is 'geometric mean' an how is it important in gene expression analysis

-SF_HK-

just google it.

in short: arithmetric mean: (a+b )/2, (a+b+c)/3 and so on....

geometric mean: (a*b )^(1/2), (a*b*c)^(1/3) and so on...

Basically, geometric mean is a type of an average. It is calculated by multiplying a set of numbers and taking the nth root, where n is the number of numbers. It is basically helpful in differential diagnosis of genes.
Hope this helps

Cheers
