Melissococcus spp. - (Mar/28/2009 )

Dear all,

Currently, i am working on identification of new bacteria using biochemical tests from neonate faecal samples.
I would like to know is it likely for Melisossococcus spp. to appear in the faecal sample.
As far as i know, this genus is responsible for the pathogenic in honey. That's all i can find.
Is there anywhere that i can know more about it?? Please do let me know.

@hhtan, it is Melissococcus spp and not Melisossococcus spp and indead it is known for the problems with the honey bee.
I know you can find it in the bee faecal , but in humans? no idea.

I know (vaguely) someone who worked with it, I'll ask him if he knows something, however I doubt it because he mainly focusses on bees and not really humans.

However I did find this:document its a general text on lactic acid bacteria, Melissococcus (the genera) being on of them.. and they speak of them being found in faecals, however its a very general text, with no real details, but maybe some of the references might help you.

I also seem to remember vaguely that the genera Melissococcus is a type used in probiotics? but I am not sure about this.

But about your specific question, its harder to get some info. I wonder whether they have really searched for it in human faecals.

Only ref I saw was to foul brood for this bacterium - formerly a Streptococcus sp.

Why would you think it to be a fecal isolate from neonates?

He also suggested to look up some universities that are studying bees and they might be able to help you more.
