agarose gels - (Feb/08/2009 )

i understand that the voltage used in gel electrophoresis is dependent on the distance between the charges, but what role does the milliAmp play? does it matter? what would be considered normal for a 1-1.5% gel?

To keep a constant voltage, the apparatus adjusts the current, the resistance is set by the electrophoresis unit (gel, buffer, number of gels...) that varies (different gel thickness, buffer quality) and with temperature changes over time.
