CHO cells - Buying CHO mutants (Jan/29/2009 )
Hello
I'm hoping someone would be able to advise me on where to buy CHO cells. I am interested in working with CHO cells dieficient in galactosyltransferase/xylosyltransferase or heparan sulfate polymerisation. I know these cells are available from ATCC, however I would like to see if I can get them cheaper elsewhere. I can't find these cells on the ECACC website and I was wondering if there is another likely source I could look into?
Thanks for any suggestions
Have you tried Invitrogen?
I've gotten some of their suspension-adapted CHO cells.
Or perhaps Sigma-Aldrich- they also use the EACC. And if you're in Europe you are able to purchase those cell lines through them.
Hope that helps.

Not sure where you work or if there are other labs around you but I've gotten a number of cell lines for free by just asking around. Our university also has a tissue culture/baculovirus core facility which cells over 100 verified/micoplasm free cell lines at $11 for a frozen vial. I find that most people are actually unaware that this core facility offers cell lines so be sure to ask around where you work!
