What are the side-effects of CAR T therapy? - (Mar/30/2018 )

The chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) consist of an extracellular antigen recognition domain (usually a single-chain antibody, but also a polypeptide or other protein) and an intracellular signal domain. The extracellular portion of CAR is used to identify specific tumor antigens, and the intracellular signal domain then stimulates T cell proliferation and eliminates tumor cells by cell lysis and cytokine release.

Cytokine storm syndrome and neurotoxicity could be a potential side effect. so patient immunity needs to be monitored pre-/post-treatment.

depending on your disease model/patient case history, tumor lysis syndrome may also be an issue.
