Introducing bioinformatics projects to my workplace? - (Feb/11/2016 )

I've always been interested in bioinformatics. When I took a course in college, I loved working in the basement Mac lab on assignments. It just seemed like the coolest thing.

I've brought my love with me to my new company, but it's not a full time effort, so I don't really have any idea what methods could prove useful in what we do.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

It would be much more useful if you just described what is that your company does, in detail, without linking to a company site or mentioning the name. That may look more like an advertising attempt, than a question.

Anyway, "bioinformatics" is just as wide as "biology". If you go around and look what problems you are dealing with at work, you either got an idea where some bioinformatic part may play a role, or you don't get any because there may not be one. Or the actual bioinformatics in use is far away from what you would like to do.

But usually, bioinformatics is needed anywhere where you have a huge amount of data, complex analysis of data or images or so on. But in most cases there may bee smart tools, that can help you even with tasks, that are not so big on data if you are friend with computers. You may try that if you don't find anything. It's still fun IMO.
