Different Accession numbers - (Nov/25/2015 )

Hi,

I am searching for a gene but I find different accession numbers associated with it. For example: If I search for TLR8 in humans I have 5 different accession numbers:

NG_012882 -

Homo sapiens toll-like receptor 8 (TLR8), RefSeqGene on chromosome X

NM_016610 -

Homo sapiens toll-like receptor 8 (TLR8), transcript variant 1, mRNA

NM_138636 -

Homo sapiens toll-like receptor 8 (TLR8), transcript variant 2, mRNA

XM_011545529 -

PREDICTED: Homo sapiens toll-like receptor 8 (TLR8), transcript variant X1, mRNA

XM_011545530 -

PREDICTED: Homo sapiens toll-like receptor 8 (TLR8), transcript variant X2, mRNA

My question is why are there 5 different sequences, what does each represent and which one is the correct one to chose?

What are predicted genes?

Thanks

just based on the descriptions, i would take the first one (refseqgene). it appears to be the rference sequence. the other four are variants or possible variants of the wild-type gene.

The transcript entries are also likely spliced, while the refseq would not be.

And what about the predicted ones?
