Software for automated cell counting? - (Jul/14/2015 )

I have a microscope with a camera connected to my computer.

Is there any software out there that lets the computer do the cell counting for me?

Say I stain the cells with trypan blue... Instead of identifying each cell on the hemocytometer manually, the apropriate software should be able to do this on its own without any reference grid or anything...

Is there any such software available for a cheap $ or free?

Try ImageJ - Java based freeware from the NIH

It is certainly capable of taking counts from an image, but to get a usable number for seeding cells you would also need to know the volume of the area being counted. It is relatively easy to calibrate a microscope for this sort of thing though.

Thanks!

I also found this: http://nghiaho.com/?page_id=1011

I am watching a tutorial on ImageJ on youtube right now.

I see ImageJ is quite a bit more sophisticated though... Very good. :)

Thank you very much. :D
