First ever project suggestions? - Starting genetic lab for hobby purposes. - (Jun/05/2015 )
I see there are some concerns concerning the microcentrifuge modification I am about to perform.
Completely understandable, however - unnecessary. A friend (electrical engineer) will assist me with the wiring, and I will be performing the rest myself. (I am told I can be quite handy...
)
For those who are interested, I have attached a very quick illustration of what will be done in a PDF file:
Basically a low profile CPU fan will be sandwitched between the inner and out lid, sucking air through a hole in the middle, cooling it through a heat-sink, and circulating it back into the centrifuge chamber.
The heat-sink will be cooled by a 400W peltier element which in turn will be cooled by an exterior cooler. The peltier element will be controlled by a thermostat that continously monitors the chamber temperature.
I have yet to decide wether or not I want to use a liquid cooling system or an ordinary air-cooled one though...
An air-cooled one is less of a hassle to set up, but its big and clunky. A watercooled block is very low profile, but then again - it comes with a radiator with fan(s) on it... so.. yeah.. hehe
I've got all the parts now except for a power supply and the external cooler. I will be ordering these parts very soon.
Sincerely, N00b.
PS: when I start working on the centrifuge for "realz" as the gamers say - I will be posting allot more professionally looking walkthroughs on my quite recently developed www.DrN00b.com blog. (Big thanks to Ameya P for asking me to write about what I do. It was a good idea indeed. )
