Measuring ammonia in cell lysates - (Mar/18/2015 )

Has anyone ever found a successful method for measuring free ammonia in cell lysates? I've tried the kit from Biovision but the background from pyruvate contamination is unacceptable. I know there are ways using gas chromatography but I dont have access or resources for something like that.
