3D Cell Culture Matrix made of jelly / gelatin - (Jan/23/2015 )

Hi,

iam doing some trials with gelantin and jelly from the supermarket as they are super cheap an nice to handle for pilot testing.

As everything works fine iam asking myself, if it is possible to culture cells on top or inside of the gel instat of using expencive ECM gels?!

Now Iam worring about the drawbacks ?

-none physiological

-bad diffuision properties

-and so on

-> Any other drawbacks ?/ Problems ?

Does anybody made some experince with cellculture on gelantin ?

Thank you in advance,

Report #1 for all who are intressted ;)

I used common cake gelatine which you can buy in any grocery store.

-Heating and mixing

-Adding to the wells

-After "curing" ... i autoclaved the dried gels.

-Afterwards i swellled the gels by adding pbs for 2-days in the incubator

-Added cells on top (3T3) and add DMEM 10%

Works fine so far  ;)

Next step is to observe the cells if they will grow into the gell :P

Have a nice day

There are systems with much better diffusion properties, such as bioreactors. Depending upon your cell type, you can culture with or without beads, scaffolds, discs etc. See this technology.
