What sorts of cloning strategies are available for creating inducible knockouts - (Sep/14/2014 )

For example, I know mice can be engineered to express the simian diphtheria toxin receptor that allows the knocking out of select cell types.  I'm looking for similar technologies that would engender a similar effect.  Thanks.

Nitroreductase is another one. Exclusion of the herpes thymidine kinase also works but you have to administer the drug it activates. This allows for spatial and temporal selection, though which is nice.
You can also simply express the dta under a promoter of choice.

I'm not sure how autocorrect decided that "expression" should be changed to "exclusion" but you get the idea.
