Colony counting/recognition software - (Sep/13/2014 )

Hi all,

Does anyone know of software that will count CFU's and categorize them on the basis of appearance, such as size, shape, and color? Sort of like facial-recognition software, but with colonies. Of course there's tremendous variation in colony appearance with species so I would never expect 100% accuracy, but all suggestions are welcome.

Usually ImageJ is suggested for this type of tasks, and at least counting and size is possible. The others I'm not sure, especially shape, but there are many plugins, filters etc developed by the community, so I guess you'll find the one you need.
