NSO cell culture - (Jul/10/2014 )

I have got some NSO  cells from a colleague and she gave me a medium which contained a specific cholesterol  supplement and told me that the NSO cells are dependent on the supplement for growth, however I  culture some cells in reqular medium with out the supplement and the cells look really happy after 3 passage. This is good news because the supplement is quite expensive but  we dont have much experience with NSO culture so I don't know if it is OK to culture cells without supplement.

Probably not.  The cells may look superficially normal, but by culturing them under conditions other than standard, you're applying selection pressure.  Any results you get from experiments are not likely to be in line with properly cultured cells.
