Sequencing gels equipment query - (Jul/01/2014 )
Hi, I have a query for anyone who does their own sequencing gels (in the old-school way!) or uses large-format hot denaturing PAGE gels for single-nucleotide resolution of primer extension products. My query is what company made your sequencing/electrophoresis rig? And what catalogue number, if you know?
The lab next door to us has a BioRad rig, and I have been using it to separate radiolabelled primer extension reaction products. We want to buy our own but BioRad doesn't make it anymore and I am having trouble sourcing a similar set up. Our current gels are 20x50cm and we want something of a similar size, that can go up to 55 or 60watts and reach 45 or 50C temperatures to get good resolution.
Is there anyone out there who has a similar rig that they can tell me about?!
Thanks!
You should check Ebay. I frequently see (and ignore) listings for sequencing gels, including from Bio Rad. Having multiple from the same company would make sense.
thanks! I had a look on eBay and there is one listed, but I'm not sure of the dimensions. I've contacted the seller and fingers crossed we can get one. You're right, we definitely want to get matching rigs if we can! Cheers :)
