BSA vs HSA as serum free culture supplement - (Jun/02/2014 )

Hi

I am going to use serum free medium for mammalian cell culture. I have read in literature that recombinant human serum albumin can be used as a supplement and helps cells to grow. But much more expensive than recombinant  BSA. So I was wondering if any one has tried BSA vs HSA in serum free culture.

Depending on what cell type you're culturing.  BSA is a good serum replacement but some cells need other supplements for optimal growth.  BSA isn't cheap either and making it up can be a hassle. Some companies have come up with serum knockout supplements which come in liquid form that you can add to your medium.
