Beckman vs. Thermo Scientific Sorvall LYNX Superspeed Centrifuge - (Apr/21/2014 )
Hi All,
I am starting a new lab and want to buy a floor model superspeed (~14000 rpm) centrifuge and can't decide which company to purchase from... Since it cost a lot of $$$, I want to buy best machine possible.
So, if $$$ is not an issue, which of the following model would you choose:
1. Avanti™ J-E High-Performance Centrifuge (Backman)
2. Avanti J-26S High-Performance Centrifuge (Backman)
3. Sorvall Lynx 4000 superspeed centrifuge (Thermo Fisher)
4. Sorvall Lynx 6000 superspeed centrifuge (Thermo Fisher)
I will be grateful for any suggestions!!
Best,
Coolcat
i've used both beckman and sorvall centrifuges but have no experience with the newer models.
in the past, i have preferred sorvall (although i've used the beckman longer) mainly due to the fact that it used a direct drive motor whereas beckman used a belt drive (there are other reasons, as well). i don't know if that is still the case.
however, in looking at the specifications for the centrifuges you listed, the sorvall lynx 6000 will give you the greatest rcf (>100,000). this may reduce your need for an ultracentrifuge for certain applications.
