mycoplasma testing - (Feb/25/2014 )

Hi, I work in a neuroscience research facility. WE culture primary cells and subcultured/frozen cells. we haven't been testing for mycoplasma till now, but would like to start. We were thinking of using PCR based method as aprimary method and vero cells staining as a second method. not sure how often and what lines I need to test (we have fibroblasts and neuronal cultures). does anyone have a example of a protocol that is used in his lab of what specimens to test and at what point of the culture? If so, that would be realy helpful.

As for how often and what, our lab checked every month and this included all the different lines we had (primary or established line didn't matter)
