For liquid cultures like this is, it is recommended to do a short liquid culture that you would then use to inoculate the larger liquid culture, which you will do the maxiprep from. The reason is due to growth curves - picking a colony and then adding it to a large volume of medium results in a very long lag phase, but inoculating with already growing bugs results in a shorter lag phase and with the right incubation times and temperatures, gives you maximal plasmid yield.
