Making an acetate buffer - (Feb/26/2013 )

Hi

I was wondering if anyone can explain to me how to make buffers? I have very limited chemistry knowledge, so the henderson hasselbach is a bit over my head.

Specifically, I want to make a 150 mM acetate buffer at pH 5.0.

Thanks :)

Basically what you do is dissolve some sodium or potassium acetate, depending on which salt you want, in water and pH to the desired pH with acetic acid.

here is some information to help you understand (and includes buffer tables):

Thank you this is very useful stuff!

many buffer calculators are available nowadays. I found this one-
