Reused glass bottles to make ethidium bromide gels - (Feb/23/2013 )

We regularly reuse glass bottles to make gels to run dna samples. Question is will the fumes emitted when the agarose gel mix is boiling harmful? It must contain trace amounts of ethidium bromide??

It does contain EtBr and potentially it is harmful, however, have a read of the several threads on here about harmfulness of EtBr (They mostly point out that its not as dangerous as you might think, and that typically amounts used are tiny). Having said that, aerosolization and gaseous forms have a ready entry into the body and I have no idea about cumulative effects.
