TRYPSIN - (Jan/04/2013 )

How can i produce Cell culture Trypsin? Any Idea?

-Pangea-

Why do you want to produce it? It is cheap to buy :)

To make it more cheaper ;). Dou you have an idea? Maybe i will get the clone from IMAGE Consortium. Or get the trypsin from slaughterhouse.

Honestly, I think it is a bad idea. The risk to the quality of your experiments is high, and how much will you really save?

It will be a heck of a lot of work to get it to a purity sufficient for cell culture, as you don't want to risk any potential contamination. Not just by microorganisms, but by other proteins, enzymes, hormones, growth factors etc- all of which could cause you problems with your cell culture.

A wise person once told me the most expensive thing in the lab is your time. And, like I said, trypsin is SO cheap, it just isn't worth trying to cheap out even further.

If you really don't want to shell out for liquid, cell culture grade trypsin- then have you considered at least purchasing the powder form and making it up yourself that way?

Thanks for your Advice.
