promoter question - (Jan/02/2013 )

Hallo,

I have been reading some literature and came across the lacpromoter that is inducible with IPTG.

Now I do not get this.

Do they mean the lacpromoter + lac operon ? If this is the case, I do understand it, because the IPTG can interact with the lacI that is bound on the lacoperator.

However if there is only a lacpromoter, then I do not understand the "IPTG inducible" part.

Is it common to refer to a promoter and by this mean both the promoter and operator sequence?

The Lac Operon can be on the Vector itself or in the Strains Genome. Lac-Promotor is just to help RNA Polymerase to find his way.
