research ideas - (Sep/23/2012 )
Hello everyone,
I'm a 3th year student off the university of applied science Leiden the netherlands.
(do not mind my english please )
I'm an microbiologist.
I have a research idea about antibiotics it's simple
why augmentin (amoxicilline with clavulan acid) when you maybe can use any other beta lactamase antibiotica and an inhibitor
so in theory you can disign several new antibiotics
my teachers gave me right but why don't they try it out?
or test it or something?
with kind regards timo
Hmmm - this is really a homework question for you - some hints are synergy, additive and antagonistic.
I agree with the above post. I think you are on the right track.
I would suggest you ask your self why augmentin is used think out how its composition is related to its use. One of the best lessons I was ever taught was "how does structure relate to functions" if you keep this in mind you will do very well. Always ask this question

Now to your actual question- what combination you are intending to use? is antibiotic u r using is broad spectrum or not? what inhibitor u r using? Is there study showing interaction between antibiotic and inhibitor? are they compatible(additive, synergistic) or antagonistic?

Agreed. Important question to consider.
