Fluorescence through Plastic - (Apr/16/2012 )

Hi,

I'm selecting virus plaques based on GFP on an inverted microscope. Has anyone noticed a dampening effect of GFP based on type of plasticware, 35mm dishes vs. 6-well plates? Is there a good cell culturing plasticware that does not hinder GFP fluorescence?

Do you have any controls? I don't think the plastic is the issue. Maybe a virus plaque doesn't glow like a transfected cell.

I do this frequently (i.e. grow viruses in tc expressing GFP) and I haven't experienced any dampening by plastic. I've used 96 well, 6 well trays and T75 flasks.
