I recently did a lab where we were asked to extract mitochondria from calf liver,in the treatment of results,we were asked what exactly is the purpose of sucrose in the fractional process which was centrifugation,i have a few ideas but i can definitely use help

Hola , the idea of use a sucrose gradient is for the separation of different cellular corpuscules according to their flotation density and isolate them of other small cellular debris. In this way and depending of the sucrose density, you will find a band were you have all the intact mitochondria. Buena suerte
