Freezing density for NIH 3T3 cells - (Jun/22/2011 )
What freezing density is best to use for NIH 3T3 cells?
Thanks.

I don't know about what is best, but we typically freeze a few million cells (btw 5 and 10) in a single aliquot of freezing medium (1ml). Seems to work just fine.

I freeze down 1-3 million cells in 1.5 ml of freezing media. This allows me to resusitate cells into either a T25/T75 TC flask. NIH 3T3 cells are mouse fibroblasts which grow very well....so you might even get away with 500,000 cells/vial.
I rarely count my cells when freezing them down, estimating the cell number depending upon the surface area of the flask.
Hope this is useful.
Kindest regards.
