Special centrifuge Tubes - funnel shaped inside - (Jun/16/2011 )
I've hear about centrifuge tubes that have have long thin tubes - thick as a small test tube - inside of the centrifuge tube forming a sort of funnel shape. Has anyone else seen this around or know where they can be purchased?

Sorry for the crappy illustration.
Cheers,

and for what do you want to use it?
there are some commercial kits out there that have what you describe.. but its nothing special really..
Those "inner tubes" as you describe then are often membranes/filters and they are inserted in a bigger tube (the collector tubes) and by spinning them you make the fluid pass through the filter for example while other substances stay on/in the filter..
Sorry didn't mean to imply that they were rare, but I'm not looking for one with any kind of filter, just with the inner chamber shaped like that. It's for oil samples
I dont work with Oil sample, but one time I need similar system with 1.5 ml eppendorf tube.
So I made it by myself by placing pre-cut tip of 200ul pipett tip inside of 1.5ml tube.
if you need bigger you can also use tip of 1-1000ul tip as well.
you can also autoclave them before use.

That sounds like a great idea but how did you secure the pipett tip inside the tube?
Thanks,
Kyle
not sure how secure it has to be for your experiment, but if you use 1000ul pipet tip and cut both end to fit in 1.5ml tube, it is secure enough for my experiment.
If you need much more secure, you might consider put something like parrafin around the tip to fill the gap
