How to get rid of DNA/RNA in protein expression preps - Is there an alternative to DNAse? (May/31/2011 )

Hi there,

I regularly do protein preps in E.Coli bacteria where we spin down the pellet and then sonicate the resuspended pellet.
We usually add MgCl2 and DNAse to chop up the DNA and make the crude extract free-flowing before loading it on to a ion exchange column.

Lately we have the DNAse is getting a bit low and it is somewhat expensive to buy. So I was wondering if there was an alternative, perhaps chemical, way to quickly get DNA
out of my sample hassle free?
