Absence of CpG islands - (Mar/29/2011 )
Hi guys,
I want to study the methylation of CpG islands of MAGE and NY-ESO genes. MAGE family antigens don't have any CpG islands in both promoter and the first exon regions.
MAGE family is a very important gene in my study..... can I still study the methylation of the promoter in this gene. If so, how?

Although there is no rule saying that if there is no CpG island then DNA methylation should not be studied for the promoter, you can still examine methylation of any CpG sites in the promoter if you can provide evidence that the methylation of the cpg site does matter to the expression of the gene.
