Tetracyline - (Mar/02/2011 )

What is the stock concentration of tetracyline and what is recommended concentration for E. Coli. I made the stock of 15mg/ml is ethanol. It does not dissolve fully, even after vibrating it as well. How to dissolve it.

you have to be careful what you are using! ...if you use Tetracycline Hydrochloride this one is only slightly soluble in ethanol ...so be careful and check what powder you are using. If you use Tetracycline it should be soluble in ethanol ...i make the stocks in 70%EtOH at a concentration of 5 mg/mL ...working concentration in E. coli is about 15-20 µg/mL.

Good luck!

15mg/ml is ok as a stock concentration.
In the end you should have a working concentration of about 10-20µg/ml

you should try 50% ethanol.

(are you sure its tetracycline? and not tetracycling-HCl?)

But I see pDNA has allready told you that, I was too slow.

That explains it. Tet-HCl doesnt dissolve very well in ethanol.
