Preparing M&S medium - (Jan/02/2011 )
Hallo all,
I had to make a M&S medium (Murashige and Skoog). And I had to make 3 "bottles" of medium and then add those together. But why did I need to make those "in between solutions" (stocksolutions?)
I think it has something to do with preventing precipitation? But what components would precipitate then?
I also have no idea that what components are needed to participate in Murashige and Skoog. if you get any idea about it, please also let me know.

didn't get your question ..but i think it has something to do with contamination..
i mean it could be better doing each separately to minimize contamination..
in other terms..you'll not be happy if all your media got contaminated
Hallo all, sorry for the late reply. The ingrediets I need to use are:
solution1:
MgSO4•7H2O
KNO3
NH4NO3
Solutionb2:
KH2PO4
Solution3:
CaCl2•2H2O
And it was the solutions 1, 2 and 3 I had to prepare in diffrent bottles to prevent precipitation.
(after this I simply had to put them toghether with the rest , solutions 4, 5 and vitamines were just seperated because those where allready in stock)
SO I wonder what is in solutions 1,2 and/or 3 that you cant mix?
solution 4:
H3BO3
MnSO4•H2O
ZnSO4•H2O
KI
NaMoO4•2 H2O
CuSO4•5H2O
CoCl2•6H2O
solution5:
FeNaADTA was used in stead of FeSO4•7H2O
and vitamines
myo-inositol
nicotinic acid
thiamine•HCl
pyridoxine•HCl
glycine
Its not to minimize contamination, because you make the changes on contamination bigger by doing it like this.. (since you autoclave more then 1 bottle and you add them toghether afterwards..)
So any ideas?
i don't know why 1 can't be mixed with 2 or 3 but 2 and 3 can't be mixed because capo4 will form and precipitate.
