EAE mouse model - (Nov/30/2010 )

Hi all,
I m working on animal model of MS, EAE, and we are doing scoring to compare diseased mice with control mice(CFA).
Im wondering and im not convinced if the qualitative scoring we see in several papers is the only parameter to take in account and to consider mostly, to perform electrophysiology studies or others...
Do you know if there are other things to measure, to have a credible comparision!!... as quantitative study..

The qualitative scoring system is generally the standard in the field, but there are a few references in the literature to using other methods. These
two papers talk about using more quantitative methods like Rotorod, narrow beam walk, grip strength, and open field tests.

I can see your objection to the standard scoring, as it can be somewhat subjective, but it's also cheap and easy to do. Apparatus for tests like rotorod can cost several thousand dollars, and are a bit more labor-intensive to carry out.
