Getting rid of yeast infection from one well in a plate - (Oct/29/2010 )
Hi
I have DRG cultures in a 24 well plate. One of the well has been infected by yeast. What should I do, as I would like to keep the cultures in the other wells which haven't got infected yet?
Thanks

There may not be much you can do to save the other wells, as they may already be infected to a lesser extent. I'd recommend very carefully removing all the medium from the infected well(s) and hoping for the best. You could also try disinfecting the wells with 70% ethanol or even 10% hypochlorite, but I can't say how that might affect adjacent wells. You can also consider adding an antimycotic like Amphotericin B to your culture medium, but be aware that adding antibiotics or antimycotics can affect your cells' behavior. In the future, I'd recommend trying to be more careful about sterility when you harvest the tissue, since that's probably where the infection came from.
