alpha imager UV glass replacement - cracked glass! (Sep/08/2010 )

Our alpha imager HP's UV transilluminator glass surface has a hairline crack that is visible in gel pictures if the gel is placed on top of the crack. But the crack is at the upper portion of the surface. Replacement of the glass + casing is expensive, is there any other way around?

If there's enough space, moving the transilluminator to a position where the crack is not in sight of the camera's lens?
