Bone marrow shipping - (Sep/06/2010 )
Hi,
I need to transport bone marrow during a 6 to 10 hours trip. In lab I'm going to isolate bone marrow stromal cells. Does someone have a protocol for transport? Which temperature, which media? Thanks.

I personally don't know anything about this, but is such a cell line available for purchase from a commercial source? If so, you might inquire from the company how such a cell line is shipped if purchased, this will give you the information you need to transport your cells.

It is a sample from a patient that I need to transport to the lab for isolate a cell population from it.

Not sure if this will help but I once got sent bone marrow cells from mice from a different lab. They isolated them one day and shipped them in a polystyrene white box with ice. I got them then next morning and work with them the moment they arrived (I even froze some down). I did this experiment a while back and can't remember the survival rates, but the cells I ended up working with were in perfect state. If you are going to be isolating you population of interest I guess you'll be removing dead cells anyway, so I think carrying them on ice should be okay.
Hope this helps
