well washer - (Jun/12/2010 )

I have been trying to do competitive ELISA however, I haven't well washer.So my question is; can I run my experiment with washing manually?

In my lab we don't have plate washer and we do all kind of ELISA including competitive. We wash wells manually three times using multi-channel pipette.

Take care that no wash solution stays put in the plate otherwise you get problems.
Hit the platea few times on a papertowel on the bench.

Multichannel pipettor is not absolutely necessary...a squeeze bottle can also be used...as long as the number of washes is sufficient.

between after last wash step and before reagent addition (non-wash) allow the plate to remain inverted on clean paper towel to completely drain.

I tried using squeeze bottle - maybe I was doing it wrong but it was quite messy and you use more buffer for washing.

Yes squeeze bottle is messy but quicker.

there are automated washers, mainfolds that you can attach to bottle top dispenser, multichannel pipettor and lastly squeeze bottle. Just depends upon what you have available or what you are willing to spend.
