Cryopreservation - Effect of isoprpanol contact (Jun/01/2010 )

Hi!

Can sme1 plz let me know the effect of isopropanol on contact with cryofreezing vials containg PBMCs. If there is some effect then is there some oher way to prevent this? Plz help

Hi,

If there was a direct contact of isopropanol with the cell, it might affect survival rate of the cell later. If there wasn't any, just wipe off the isopropanol from the vial (and hope it does not cause the ink to run off from the label) and not to worry.

Isopropanol is used as a medium to maintain almost constant cooling rate of -1 degree C/ min in -80 C fridge.
