Do HEK 293 cells contain functional E1A/E1B? - (Apr/29/2010 )

Dear all,

I wish to do p53 related studies and I was wondering if HEK 293 cells contain fucntional Adenovirus proteins like E1A or E1B?If so,do they inhibit p53 in these cells?Would this affect my readout of p53-reporter based experiments?

Thanks!! :D

They contain the genome of adenovirus, but I don't know if it is expressed or not. I suspect not. The p53 pathway is inhibited in some fashion in most if not all cancer and immortal cell types.

hi
yes they express functional e1a/e1b and that is why expression from cmv promoter is much higher in these cells compared to other cells (e1a transactivates cmv promoter)
