Fibroblast cell culture - (Mar/11/2010 )

Hi,

I am working with fibroblast tissue culture (at the moment I get them rinsed from cow milk). I have problems on getting a good growth. I have read that growth slows down after 8-10 passages - is that true? And do anyone know why this is?

I am greatefull for any information you might have on fibroblasts and/or where to find it!??

Hope that someone is able to help me!!

Thank you

Louise

Normal cells have what is known as a Hayflick limit - which is the number of times the cells can divide before DNA damage or other processes cause the cell to stop dividing (senescence) or to undergo apoptosis. For many cells this is about 30-60 cell divisions; it may be that your cells have reached that point.
