DMEM+10% FBS good enough? - (Mar/07/2010 )
I noticed that my 293 cell does not grow as fast as I used to see.
The difference is that we only use DMEM+10% FBS and L-Glutamine here. While in my previous lab we add NEAA and Sodium pyruvate into the media too. I am wondering if these supplement can make a big difference in cell culture? I am having a difficult time to detect a transfected protein expression in WB. I wonder if I put in these supplements can help cells to grow faster and overexpress more proteins that I wanted.

It depends on the formulation of the DMEM. Some will have these factors already added, some need supplementation. Check the bottle or supplier catalog and see what the specific type of DMEM you are using contains.

I have worked with 293t but I think besides your supplments, your passage number might already has went up.
