Protogel Quick-Cast - Has anybody used this to make their protein gels? (Feb/17/2010 )
I've just stumbled across National Diagnostics Protogel Quick Cast. It claims to dramatically cut the time taken to cast a polyacrylamide protein gel, but I can't help hearing a voice in my head saying "if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is!". I am particularly confused by the implication that, in using this product, you do not need to cast a stacking gel. The protocol pdf says that you can (optionally) cast a stacking gel to "augment band sharpness", but even then it uses the same solution as a base for the stacking gel; only adjusting the percentage, not pH.
All in all it's very confusing to me! I can only imagine it producing messy results, but then if it works, it works! So I was wondering if any of you have used this, and how you found that it compares with a regular self-made, or pre-cast gel??
I havn't tried this product. Ask them for a sample and try it out.
